Our project was about the clothing on the home front and at the war it self. We decided to research the changes that happened in the clothing and what affected that. We also decided to compare five countries (Russia, Germany, France, Britain, and Scotland) so that could see how countries represented themselves, and see
Regarding the process of the whole interdisciplinary unit task, the most efficient way of working fast, was dividing tasks. When our group had made a decision on the topic and what we were going to do and make, we started planning and dividing tasks. We did the division of Labour as followed:
Skye: In this project, Skye is doing most of the research on the soldiers and most of the research on the women. She drew all the soldiers uniforms and all the medals. We made this decision because Skye’s skills at drawing men is very good, and she was also motivated to discover how long it took for the countries to change the uniforms and why it happened exactly. We found that Skye is better at structural drawings considering she's into anime drawings, for this reason Skye did very well in uniforms.
Sabine: Sabine is doing most of the research the gas masks, and the nurses. Sabine is interested in the role of women in the war, and therefore we have put her in these positions. She is talented at drawing women, and has therefore has been drawing all the women. Sabine created the website’s layout. We found that Sabine was better at flowing drawings, featuring gentle designs and creative patterns, this is clearly seen in the drawings made.
Casey: Casey’s job was to research the accessories and on the factories. Casey is good at drawing and also good at doing research; this is why she is doing this part of the project. With this job, Casey could also help Sabine, Skye, and Gioia to do the research for the other categories. We found that Casey was better at drawing small designs with flowers, or minute details.
Gioia: Gioia mainly worked on the website and writing information in it. She helped with a bit of the research in different categories. Gioia is not good at drawing, therefore she decided to help with part of the research, and took the responsibility for the writing on the website.
The final product that we made was built by all of us together. As the data was collected separately, and the wording of it as well, we came to an agreement that the final timeline that had to be painted on the canvas as our exhibition product, would be made by all of us together. The content on the timeline was on one side the men (soldiers) and how their uniforms change. The other side of the timeline was for the women (nurses) and their work uniform changed. All transitions and changes would be explained throughout the timetable. During the exhibition we also planned to show the website, as not all designs were shown on the final timeline. The reason we also considered our website a part of our product is because we believed it was an original way of showing our work, and because the website shows a bigger variety of categories regarding clothing. Our exhibition product was in the format of a timeline drawn on a canvas. For the process of the website, we used a program called “Weebly”, because it was the most efficient way of creating a web shop without having to pay any money. For our exhibition piece, the materials we needed were a canvas and black, beige, and pink paint. Of course we also needed to have the designs of the uniforms for the soldiers and the nurses, all the accessories, and the clothing that was at the home front. For this we only needed blank white paper and colored pencils.
When planning the project regarding time, we needed to consider all of the steps. We figured that the research would be very time consuming, but so would the final product timeline. We planned in such way that research would be done, while the introduction and explanations would be written on the website. Later the canvas would be done all together, and finally the findings, conclusion would be written and posted on the website, while the others are posting the clothes that they drew, with all information that was appropriate.
Sources that we had to use for the research part were generally hard to find because our research was done in a lot of depth. We also used information from two of the museums in Ypres, which were very helpful seen as there, we could see the costumes physically, meaning we could understand what we were talking and researching about, even better.
