In our History, English, and Drama classes we have been focusing on the First World War, the causes of it, the experience of war both on the battlefield and on the home front, and the war poetry/ letters that were written by the soldiers, to soldiers, family members etc. We have studied the impact that the First Total War had on the soldiers, the civilians, and societies as a whole. The entire grade 10 has visited the town Ypres, situated in Belgium. Ypres (now Ieper) was involved heavily in World War One because it underwent three major artillery attacks. During this trip we saw sites important to World War One, visited museums and cemeteries, and heard about personal stories of individuals involved in the war and learned about the effects this war had on society.
